July Garden

MORE TINY GARDEN PICS

We had a very harsh winter so we were happy to see signs of spring and life still in our little garden. The first signs of life were the row of hyacinths that popped up around Easter. As of June our roses and yarrow are in bloom. We recently replaced our dying bay tree for a miniature coral red bark maple which was a big improvement. If you look carefully at the bottom picture you'll see a guest in our garden--no, it's not statuary!

Sadie Weekend

Recently Sadie spent a whole day and night alone with Grandma and Grandpa! We had so much fun! We picked a few flowers left over in the garden, played peek-a-boo in the pantry and went to the park to feed the ducks to name a few. Guess we wore her out, because you can see she crashed on her way home to Olympia. Sadie's secret for such great smiles--she says "cheese" whenever the camera is pointed her way!

Go Connor, Go! Play Sadie, Play!

We enjoyed spending time with Connor & Sadie (and their parents) last weekend in Olympia. We arrived in time to watch Connor play soccer with his team--the Dinosaurs--where he scored two goals! He has the best coach--his dad! Go Connor! We also had so much fun playing with Sadie. At one point she wanted to try on a chicken costume which quickly became way too hot! Sadie loves to pose for the camera saying "cheese!" We have two perfect grandchildren!

Our Tiny Garden

This spring we saw the beginning of our small perennial garden. After a harsh winter (it was planted in late November) we thought for sure there would be nothing left, as many of the plants looked like tiny spindly, weeds. Fortunately, after a few warmer days the plants grew pretty rapidly!
All summer long, it's been fun to see what surprises are blooming! The lavender was gorgeous and so fragrant when in full bloom. And I was surprised how much I loved the lacey blooms of the heuchera. One plant that came and went was a red-hot poker. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of it. I will look forward to seeing it next summer.
Within the borders of the small rock wall that follows the shape of our bay window is a little garden within a garden. It is all green plants such as ferns and anemones and mossy ground cover.

The summer is coming to an end, and the lavender and heuchera are past their prime. I love the yellow coneflowers that dominate now. And I especially love the little people who visit--Sadie and Connor!

So here's the secret to my gardening--I have good helpers!

A Day at the Beach

Beautiful Glacier Park

Mark and I visited Glacier National Park, along with my parents and Iris last month. It was so gorgeous there with lots of green and blooming wildflowers. We stopped at a picnic site and ate lunch overlooking St. Mary's lake.

We drove up the famous "Going to the Sun" highway to the top of Logan Pass where it is perpetually snow covered in some areas.

This is one of the "weeping walls" along the "Going to the Sun".
